Two Friday's ago I went on a field trip with Martin and Matilda's 3rd Grade Class to Dinosaur Ridge. We learned about Colorado being part of the
Western Interior Seaway nearly a hundred million years ago. At this time there were several species of dinosaurs that wandered in the tidal zone between the salt and fresh water. Many of the dinosaur tracks of adult and young dinosaurs are fossilized and visible on Dinosaur Ridge. Our tour guide told us that they have discovered tracks of 37 species of dinosaurs here.
We also saw fossils of mangrove swamps, fossilized ripple marks and trace fossils of brontosaur footsteps.
I believe the kids all had a great time and we saw and learned some pretty cool things. One of the neatest parts about Dinosaur Ridge is that it's only a few miles from our house.
